Spring Has Sprung in Houston and Dash is Giving You Our Top 5 Tips for Decluttering for a More Organized Home.
Do you ever have your house cleaned, but then it feels messy and chaotic only days after? The problem is that you can clean and clean, and never achieve that feeling of calm that comes with an organized home. First, you must understand that there is a huge difference in spring cleaning and decluttering. I’m not talking about cleaning baseboards or dusting ceiling fans. What I mean, is removing unnecessary items from your space to make it more useful or more beautiful. In a recent study, clutter problems were associated with life dissatisfaction in many adults. Spring is a great time to really look at what items you want to have in your life. Read on for tips to get started today!
DASH’S TOP 5 DECLUTTERING TIPS:
- Begin in an area that will make a difference. What will have an impact right away? A bedroom or kitchen may be a better place to start than a garage or linen closet. When you see how much you love your organized space, you will be inspired to do more.
- Sort using the box method. Have two boxes and a trash bag. One box for donations and one for recycling. This will help things go faster when you can simply toss items in that you will be removing from your home.
- Set a timer. It is VERY easy to get overwhelmed and sometimes lose track of time. Start with a small amount of time, say an hour, to begin a project and limit yourself to this time. Do not do anything else during this time…ahem, stay away from social media phone calls etc, to stay on track. Next time you start will be easier if you know there is an end time.
- Make it fun. Turn on the music or play a podcast, pour yourself a glass of wine..whatever makes the process more enjoyable. Sometimes having a friend help is just the trick!
- Treat yo self. Plan a reward for the end of the project. Maybe you buy a new dress once your master closet is completely organized, or go out for a nice dinner after you complete your kitchen. Having a reward to focus on will keep you motivated to complete the task!
